Ordinarily, the difficulty all around the country should enthuse any young person to grab the offer of an appointment.
Much more important than that, every patriotic citizen will consider an appointment as an opportunity to serve, engrave a personal name on the marbles of history and further widen political scope.
Anybody should hence be elated.
However, the rain of appointments by the governor which are conspicuously purposeless, ‘directionless’, ‘planless’ and infantile will make anyone decline them.
I mean, a professor should know that an appointment is tailored to meet a societal need.
Now appointments are made without any tool of evaluation and assessment.
There is no measure in place to check performance.
People are SAs on Textile importation yet they work in yam farms.
People are SAs on classroom matters, yet they jump from palmy shade to beer palour making noise in the name of talking politics.
As long as you know how the election in Nwang, Betriku, Ofombongha or Akpet were conducted and can shout in a beer palour for 1 hour continuously, you’re already a material for appointment. All you now need is a comment from government house.
How then do we get a better Cross River/ Nigeria?
It is funnier that the governor imagines he’ll woo these crop of intelligent and sound minded Cross Riverians with these shenanigans called appointments as bait ahead of the 2023 elections.
On the one hand, some persons will take the appointments, collect the pay therein and still work against the governor, others on the other hand have the gumption to decline these meaningless play.
Maybe the governor doesn’t know that people are more sensitive these days and wouldn’t fall so cheap.
While I salute men of courage like my brother and friend, Omang Peter Idiege , it is pertinent to note that the mission to reclaim Cross River is in sight and no distractions will suffice.
