Youth group in Calabar Municipality raises alarm on the undue interference into the Local Government Administration and usurpation of the role of the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Felix Idem.
The group frowns at the fact that the Commissioner whose responsibility is to supervise the 18LGA and advise on issues that concern both State and Local Government, has completely deviated from his principal functions, and meddling into the day to day running of the Council.
The task accompanying his exalted office as the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs is quite Herculean and enormous, padded with several pecuniary benefits when compared to other Ministries in the state, but what is most baffling is the level of greed being displayed by one who has not even started eating his elephant but has resorted to struggling crumbs on the floor with the youths who suffered and tarried to ensure the emergence of the present administration. What a waste, that a super commissioner will leave his exalted throne with much largese to come and struggle revenue points with the boys in the street, this is truly a huge madness in the history of municipal politics. If revenue point is that important to you, then resign and come and hold one and pay target to the local government Mr commissioner Sir.
As it stands, the Local government is facing alot of litigations from all fronts as a result of the high-handedness of this same commissioner. Mr Idem compels the Holga to concede to his unholy whims.
The immediate past HOLGA, Mrs Ani who was sacked by the same commissioner recently, suffered hell but stood her ground to protect her integrity having considered the years she’s put in service. Her refusal to succumb to the unprofessional directives from the Commissioner for Local government affairs led to her immediate removal and transfer to Abi LGA. The Director of Litigation of Calabar Municipality, Barr Duke suffered same fate for advising the then HOLGA on the implications of going contrary to standard professional workings of the Local Government Administration. Two Principal officers transferred same month just for the commissioner to execute his evil agenda but it is very unfortunate for him, the law is a respecter of nobody.
In view of the forgoing, it’s clear as crystals that the Commissioner is so inexperience and unfit to be saddled with the task of coordinating the entire 18 Local Government Councils on behalf of the state Government, having completely failed to coordinate his political Ward and the local government he was nominated from.
For the government to succeed in delivering on its mandate, such a character who is a square peg in a round hole, and has never held any political office from birth apart from the part time food on the table Special Adviser appointment the former governor compensated him with.
The trending political saga in Calabar Municipality is solely the handiwork of one greedy man who wants to control family men and women by all means, an impossible mission with no bearing. This travails if not nip in the bud will sure birth an unending enmity as majority of both the youths and critical stakeholders are very bittered with this overzealous character. This is clearly an act of wickedness where everyone joined hands in preparing a meal and first in hand having got his reasonable portion, messed the leftover food in the pot with sand so others can’t partake of the meal, clearly evil snipe that will sure meet a brick wall.
His consistent gross ineptitude and his recently exuded demigod tendencies reflects the clear reasons the past three administration saw him as a threat and placed him in his holy temple for 24yrs, but he can’t even learn his lessons given an opportunity of this magnitude to clear himself of this stigma, a very big shame!
The government of the day should as a matter of urgent public interest act fast in delisting this clumsy, awkward and unprofessional appointee from it’s administrative architecture, inorder to end this muddy nature gangsterism which has already eaten deep into our political fabric, quite unfortunate.
