The House member representing Yala 1 State Constituency, Hon Brian Odey, has rolled out the scorecard of his impactful representation in the past year to mark his first anniversary as a member of the Cross River House of Assembly -CRHA.
Famed for his quest for relentless service to humanity captured in his commitment to redefining a pro-people representation, Hon. Brian offered himself to represent the unique people of Yala 1 State constituency, having obtained a sweeping majority support at the March 8, 2023 Governorship/State Assembly polls.
Upon inauguration on June 13, 2023, he set the ball rolling and commenced an era of effective representation at the Assembly.
Brian disclosed that he has sponsored eight bills and several motions in the past one year. Out of the eight bills , he Co-sponsored seven while one was a personal bill.
According to the lawmaker, the eight bills, which focus on the development of his constituency and the state, have gone through their first and second reading in the House.
Brian, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts as well as the Vice Chairman Environment, Vice Chairman Health, Member Finance & Appropriation, Member Petroleum & Mineral Resources explained that he has also impacted the people of his constituency through various projects.
He said he is currently lobbying for State employment opportunities for young graduates from Yala 1 State Constituency.
Speaking on his one year anniversary, Hon Brian listed the bills and motions which include:
1) MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT, THROUGH THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND COMMISSIONER FOR JUSTICE, TO ENSURE STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE NIGERIAN MINERAL AND MINERAL ACT, 2007; WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON THE ACTIVITIES OF MINING COMPANIES OPERATING IN THE STATE.
2) MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT THROUGH RELEVANT MINISTRIES AND AGENCIES TO IMPRESS ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND NATIONAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION ON THE NEED FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND DETERMINATION OF CROSS RIVER STATE BOUNDARIES WITH NEIGHBORING STATES ESPECIALLY BOUNDARIES BETWEEN YACHE IN YALA LGA CROSS RIVER STATE AND BENUE STATE.
3) A MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO IMMEDIATELY ABSORB CASUAL WORKERS AND PROVIDE IMPROVED FUNDING FOR SERVICES OF THE CROSS RIVER STATE BROADCASTING CORPORATION (CRBC): Co-sponsored.
4) A MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TO REVERT THE GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL IKOM (GOVISCO) BACK TO SINGLE GENDER (BOYS) SCHOOL: Co-sponsored.
5) A BILL TO AMEND THE CROSS RIVER STATE URBAN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY LAW NO. 8 OF 2000 AND REPEAL THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (AMENDED) LAW NO. 3 OF 2005 AND FOR MATTERS CONNECTED THEREWITH.

3) Urgent intervention and provision of relief materials during Ugaga Igbekurikor Communal Clash.
4) Motion on rehabilitation of the abandoned Okpoma-Mfom-Yahe road in Yala LGA.
5) A Bill Seeking for the provision of the legal framework for the establishment of Yala Urban Development Authority and other matters connected therewith.
6) Procurement of UTME/JAMB forms for over 300 students with scholarships for the best-performing students (male and female) in each of the wards in Yala 1.
7) Payment of post primary education school fees and other palliative to residents across his constituency, including interest groups, Christian and Muslim communities, to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
8) Ongoing verification for financial support of prospective vulnerable Law Students from Yala 1 to be admitted into the Nigerian Law School
9) Donation of cash support to selected youths in Yala 1 to cushion the hardship of Subsidy removal.
10) Partnership with Donor Agency on Healthcare development initiatives in Yala 1.
11) Un-conditional cash transfer of millions of Naira to constituents in need.
12) Urgent intervention with cash support to victims of fire disaster in Okuku-Yala in Yala LGA of Cross River State.
He said that he would continue to be strategic and deliberate in his representation just as he restated that Yala 1 under his leadership at the State Assembly would continue to prioritise legislation which have a direct and positive impact on constituents and remain frugal in the management of the “commonwealth”.
He declared that he was at peace with himself having stuck to the promise he made to deliver good representation to the people.
