
A bill for a law to amend Cross River State Urban Development Authority Law 8 of 2000 and repeal the Urban Development Authority (amendment) Law 3 of 2005 and for matters connected therewith has passed second reading in the Cross River House of Assembly.
The amendment to enact for the administration of development and related purposes to capture Yala Urban Development Authority (YUDA) seeks to delete Section 1 of the Principal Law and substitute with a new section 1.
Leading the debate on the merit and general principles of the bill during plenary, Hon. Brian Odey who represents Yala 1 State constituency and the sponsor of the bill, recalled that the bill had passed through its first reading earlier.
Brian said the proposed amendment law is to update efficient placement of activities in line with his commitment to sponsoring people oriented Bills.
“This is because of my firm belief that Government belongs to the People. Therefore, the essence of this Bill is for Cross Riverians; particularly Yala people towards having a sustainable Urban Development and regeneration for the well being of all”.
He stressed the importance of Urban Development to the aesthetic value of urban centers which he said depends largely on the existing law which he sought to be amended though the legislature.
The sponsor of the bill gave insights to what the bill looks like, saying it is drafted to provide for the function with such responsibilities for the initiation, formulation and execution of policies of the Yala LGA regarding urban development and others.
