It will no longer be business as usual for perpetrators of crimes, syndicates, and abettors as the Ikom Local Government Area Chairman Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, has received assurances from all Security Agencies for the protection of lives and properties, being the priority of every government.
Assurances were given during a round of courtesy visits by the Executive Chairman and her entourage to some of the divisional offices of law enforcement agencies, including those of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force [NPF], Department of State Security Service [DSS], National Security and Civil Defense Corps [NSCDC], as they all pledged to work in synergy with the government of the day.
At the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps office, the divisional officer in charge of Ikom, Chief Superintendent Otabi Raymond, said, as the closest enforcement body to the people by law, they remain committed to the protection and safeguarding of critical infrastructures as well as to provide guard for citizens.
“As enshrined by law, we oversee the safeguarding of public infrastructure like transformers and public buildings as well as the people. We will continue to give our best to ensure that Ikom remains calm and secure for residents and businesses”.
The assurance wasn’t different from the Nigerian Army as the team visited the headquarters of 245 Battalion Ikom, headed by Lt Col SA Bello, who said the Army will rely on intelligence reports from members of the public urging the people to build a civil-military relationship to foster unity.
For men of the Nigerian Road Safety Corps, “Ikom is strategic because of its commerce and geographic location”
The Unit Commander,
Nakee Chinweuba said due to the influx of people into the Town and with Ikom serving as a route out of Cross River State and Nigeria, the Sector remains committed to the enforcement of road traffic rules to curb accidents and other road-related issues.
In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, applauded all Security Agencies for the relative Peace and Protection experienced in the LGA while urging them to intensify efforts in bringing criminality to a halt as her administration won’t tolerate such.
She assured them of her support at all times and promised quarterly security meetings to improve the security architecture of the LGA.
It is believed that with this assurance and new partnership for progress between Government and Security Services, the confidence of residents is now raised to go about their lawful engagements without fear both in the day and night time.
In the Chairman’s entourage was the Secretary of Council, Mr. Edo Owan; the Director of Finance, Ntufam Obase Obi; the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Peace and Security, Hon.
