George Odok Jnr, a senior defence correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has bagged First Baba Isa award for influence in the Best journalist 2020 category.

Odok, a Cross Riverian emerged victorious ahead of three other journalists in the category. He was awarded for his Sterling, timely, unbiased and consistent reportage especially during the heat of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. According to the organizers, “Odok was one of the journalists who created sufficient awareness on Newspapers and social media on the danger of the pandemic by way of enlightening the public on safety measures and also encouraging the Cross River State Government on the need to upscale the level of testing of the virus in the state”

In 2020, Odok was also at the forefront of reporting security challenges in Cross River State and profering solutions on ways to combat the incessant cases of kidnapping that ravaged Calabar at a point.

The award is a deserved one and we believe it will energize Odok to do much more.
